I had a phenomenal dining experience and would definitely recommend sopping here if staying in Port St Joe or Mexico Beach area. Located in the cute downtown area of Port St. Joe, the restaurant conveniently had street parking. I was impressed with the menu selection as it a mix of the more standard options (burritos, beans, rice, guacamole) as well as fish, ceviche, churros and numerous seafood/vegetarian options. The shrimp ceviche was fresh, flavorful and quite a large portion for the price. Portions were very large with the addition of sides, so we ended up taking leftovers. I would like to try one of the shrimp dishes or seafood platters next. The staff was very attentive with our large group, filling our waters and checking in throughout the night. I was especially appreciative of the unlimited refills of ships and salsa (both excellent). In terms of the ambience, there were numerous TVs, a bar, high ceilings and comfortable seating arrangements. Drinks (margaritas) were a bit overpriced although very tasty. Would not recommend the sopapilla here (crispy and flat, slightly burned), but the flan was on point.

This restaurant pleased the masses. Very hard to do in my family! Great service, food and reasonable prices, especially at the beach! Definitely recommend!

Good service...great food...waiter could smile a little bit more. We had so much food and only ordered one plate. It was all under $20. We will come back and try other things.

Love love love this place. Staff is always friendly and attentive. Food has been great everytime and best of all my kids love it. My son has informed me that this is his favorite place to eat in port st. joe. Burritos are great and I'm a huge fan of the fajitas peppers. Was it down with a coronaritta and your set.

Peppers was a nice surprise. We have been coming to this area for many years but never really thought to eat Mexican at the beach. My honey had the taco salad which was just ok but the pollo Diablo was wonderful! Nice grilled veggies on the side of a pan seared chicken that was moist and crisp at the same time. Service was a little less than friendly but I came to eat so no big deal.

Just a consistently good dining experience. Good each day of the week. I have come here for around three years and have not been disappointed. Try the queso with a chorizo and soft tacos- yummers!!

My husband and I had lunch here on our way home to SGI after a trip to the base. I had the lunch shrimp tacos and he had enchiladas. Both of us thought the food was very good. The shrimp were cooked perfectly. And I liked the more traditional tacos rather than the beachy mango salsa version you get lots of places. Service and price were good too.

Really good enchiladas and tacos...great service fast lunch time. Food came out piping hot with fresh salad toppings and they even had pretty good chicken nuggets for the kiddos!

We were impressed. The price for the portions are spot on. The chimichang lovers were packed. Only con. They only have tequila, beer and wine.

Tasty, but average Amerxican food. Don't listen to the other reviewers, this is definitely *not* authentic Mexican food. Well, compared to Taco Bell, but otherwise no. It's still good for what it is, just don't come here expecting to get a torta or some chilaquiles.

We enjoyed it, good salsa, great cheese dip, tasty fajita. The lunch prices are awesome, will definitely go back .

Excellent food and service!! Great salsa. A new favorite for when we are here. Back 2 years later. Still good and reasonable. It was packed but service was excellent. Food was great too. Fresh and hot. Will be back

Awesome Mexican food! Service was excellent. Atmosphere was nice. The entrees were very excellent. What makes this restaurant stand out from other Mexican restaurants is their authenticity of the beans, rice, guac etc.. The sides are exactly are exactly what you would get at a restaurant south of the border!

After reading the other reviews, we had high hopes for a great meal. The place was crowded but we were quickly seated. Chips and salsa appeared immediately. The chips were thin and served hot. The salsa was terrific. The menu was extensive and prices were very reasonable. We finally decided on a steak fajita taco salad and a "Speedy Gonzalez"--a beef taco and chicken enchilada combo. The wait was minimal and the service was fine. My taco turned out to be large and totally filled with a pile of barely seasoned ground beef. A sparse handful of lettuce and (Jack?) cheese spilled onto the plate. No tomatoes. No sour cream. No flavor. A couple of Taco Bell tacos would have been an improvement. The chicken enchilada was filled with slightly tough shredded chicken. The enchilada sauce was bland to the point of boring. I think they use canned tomato sauce with a tiny pinch of chili powder. It really could have used some onions or garlic--or something! At least the beans were good. My husband says the impressively large fried flour tortilla was the best part of his meal. His plate was full, there was nothing overtly wrong with anything, but again, the flavor was missing. A number of people commented on the good margaritas. Maybe a couple of those would improve the experience. All in all, we left full but unsatisfied. We won't be back.

This place was recommended by a local, so we gave it a try Although it is the week of July 4th. The wait was long, about an hour...... Finally seated and our drink order taken. Then another long wait to order our food. The place was packed so we didn't think much of it........our waiter was not very attentive, had to flag down another wait staff for extra chips and salsa, finally took our order......another long wait.....again had to flag down someone for silverware...... Finally our food arrives.......NO FLAVOR! Very Bland! Very disappointed.....will not return!

Visited Peppers on the spur of the moment while vacationing in PSJ, but wasn't impressed at all. The first impression was really bad. We walked in and was told by (what appeared to be) the manager to 'sit wherever you like'. Once we did, our server walked by, looked at us and said, 'Oh. So I guess you decided to seat yourself'. He then literally dropped the silverware on the table and left. It was bad from then on. Bad food, poor service, always lacking drinks, etc. I'd skip this place for sure and visit the pizza place, Joe Mamas, down the street.

We always visit Pepper's when we visit the Mexico Beach area. The prices are reasonable and the food is consistently good. I love the chips and salsa and often get some to go after our meal. Yes, this isn't the Tex Mex you'd get in the Southwest, but it's great compared to the majority of Mexican restaurants in north Florida. We've had a lot of the dishes and have never been disappointed. The service is always friendly and fast.

The seafood chimichanga was sooo good!! Lots of scallops shrimp & fish in it! Delicious! Margaritas were good and the salsa tasted fresh. Will deff be back next time we're over this way!

Very hopping, seems to be a locals favorite. Service is excellent and the restaurant looks nice. Good food, good value.

The management staff for this restaurant is AWFUL!! VERY rude and horrible to deal with. Just by his attitude alone, I would be APPALLED if I was the owner. If anyone from my business spoke to someone in the manner he spoke to me, they would be fired immediately. I can't believe someone could act so unprofessionally and down right hideous to another human being.

We came here because nothing else was open and we wanted dinner before heading to the beachhouse on Cape San Blas. I ordered tacos and my husband ordered steak tacos. The meat in the tacos was fresh and cooked perfectly but had absolutely no taste. The beans and rice also had no flavor whatsoever. The salsa tasted as though it was from a jar. But, the white cheese was plentiful and the produce was fresh. Our server was not very attentive and took a long time to bring the check. He also took forever to pick up the check and return our credit card. We don't live in the area, but if we did we would not return.

This restaurant has some really great authentic Mexican food. Surprised us to find it in Port St Joe. Chicken Taco and Chicken Enchilada was wonderful as was the rice. Our server spoke Spanish with us and was delightful. I would come here again and again.

Kinda slow service on this Memorial Day weekend, but Ooooh, so good food. Their margaritas are wonderful. The food was excellent, service was limited but it was a busy holiday weekend. I'm sure a normal weekend would be very good.

This is quite possibly the best mexican food I've ever had. My family came in randomly and were so glad we did. I had the chimichunga woth shrimp and it was delicious! My wife also enjoyed her plate and the salsa was very good with the amount of cilantro used. Definitely coming back here next time in Mexico Beach.

I ordered arroz com pollo and got chopped up chicken rice, corn and a few black beans. It was awful. The waiter had no idea the Saturday's special was Chicken fettuccine. We had to remove the sign from the from door of the restaurant to show him. If you are visiting Port St Joe take you own groceries to cook up a nice meal!

Love Peppers! When we vacation in this area, we always make a point to go to this restaurant - it is awesome! Last time we went, we had plenty of delicious food and took the left overs home for dinner that night. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is that we wanted to enjoy their banana chimichanga for dessert that they had advertised but they ran out. All in all, love it and will definitely be back.

This place was great! It seemed to be the only thing open in the little downtown area and looked totally packed but we only had to wait a few minutes. Since living in the south I've had nothing but bad Mexican food...until now. Peppers is delicious, the staff is friendly and the Monster Margarita will knock your socks off (and then knock you down! I suggest sharing and make sure you have a DD). The portions are well sized, enough for left overs. Can't wait to go back next time we take the dogs to the beach!

Pepper's is great! I wish that their Apalach location would have survived. The food is very good. I usually order the carnitas. yum! The staff is always friendly. And the atmosphere is warm and inviting.

Got there 30 minutes before the lunch specials ended. It took 30 minutes to get a waiter to come to the table. The table behind us pointed it out to the waiter that we had been there foe a while waiting to be served, the waiter told them they were really busy and its not like they were sitting around doing nothing. By the time we got a waiter the lunch menu was over. we asked if we could still get the lunch prices but he said he could write it down but the computer wouldn't do it. so no. That is the last time we ever go there.

Surprisingly good for this area...tamales were homemade and excellent! Portions are quite large and the service is prompt. They have a full bar, but the only drinkable beer is Dos Equis. Pitcher was pretty cheap, though and is the way to go. Salsa was good, but not too spicy, but at least they have some Cholula on the table to add. I would definitely come back here. Prices are VERY reasonable. Dinner for two (with enough leftovers for a second meal!) and a pitcher of beer for $30 including a hefty tip. Only drawback: need better beer selection and variety of tamales other than just pork.

Ok, Port St. Joe, for being the small coastal town that it is, has some dang good restaurants that are so much better and more affordable than tourist traps around the big hot spots like PC and Destin. We adored Pepper's! It's nestled between the old little shops in the downtown part of Port St. Joe. We adored this place because, first of all, the atmosphere was just plain fun. They had an authentic Mariachi band playing/singing authentic songs--none of that silly Americanized stuff you hear at places like Frontera in the Atlanta area. Second, the salsa and margaritas were really good. Third, and most importantly, the food was very tasty, came in huge portions, and was cheap! I got the Enchiladas Rancheras which were described as 2 cheese enchiladas covered in a red sauce with shredded pork. I expected to see a few shreds of pork in a thin red sauce, but what came out on my plate were two huge cheese enchiladas covered in a thick stew-like sauce with at least 1/2 lb of tender, shredded pork and tons of bell peppers and onions. I couldn't even find the cheese enchiladas at first. I think my entree was about $8 and could have fed 3 people. Their rice was really good too--fluffy, not too dried out, and full of vegetables like peas and carrots. Everyone else's entrees were huge and we could have split 2 or 3 entrees among 5 people if we had known better. I think the five of us ate (2 of us had margaritas and the others had coke/tea) for $60. I'm craving the Enchiladas Rancheras as I write this...

We love Pepper's. Our visits have been marked by consistently reliable service and tasty food. We never have to wait long, there are chips and nachos on the table as soon as we sit down. The menu is large and includes the full range of dishes you would expect from a Mexican restaurant. Portions are generous and the prices are very reasonable. The strawberry margaritas are heaven...a warning though, the smallest size has been plenty for us. They sneak up on you. Of course, if someone else is driving, go for one of the bigger ones!

service was HORRIBLE. we had 1 waiter for a table of 15 while all the other staff (about 10 of them) sat around watching football - we were the only ones there. it took him 15 minutes to take my drink order and then he never returned to fill up my water or beer until my friend got up and went after him. he also handed my other friend a hot plate and didn't warn her and she burned her hand. I almost didn't leave a tip. food was good, like any other Mexican place, but i would never return here when on vacation.

I spent the summer in Port Saint Joe and my house mates and I made many trips to Pepper's. Each visit was wonderful. The prices are low and the portions are large. The food is fresh and hot and ready within 10 minutes of you ordering. The service is wonderful as well.

Considering there's hardly any good, cheap healthy food in this part of Florida (restaurants or grocery stores), I was so happy to finally get a filling, fresh meal at Peppers, after being stuck in a hotel for several days. I ordered a combo off the vegetarian section and it came with plenty of good beans, cheese, tortilla, lettuce, tomato and guacamole. The price was just right - $6 something for dinner. Our waiter was kind of MIA, but I was so starving from being on vacation in this area with no good food that I looked past it. We had already eaten at Joe Mama's and found it to be lacking in substance. Provisions is good but expensive. We try to eat healthy and cheap as much as possible so Peppers fit the bill pretty well. It's kind of your basic Mexican place.

Had dinner at Pepper's on the recommendation of our hotel clerk. Pretty good food but very Americanized. Chips were not fried in house, definitely from a bag. Would eat here again.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
